Dear Lindsey Families,
We are underway with testing! All three grade levels completed the reading and math state tests. Next week 5th grade will take the Science state tests. We are very proud of our students for diligently working and focusing during the tests. A big thank you to the PTO families who greeted students on the first day of testing with positive comments on the sidewalk and windows. Everyone loved the "Chalk the Walk" messages. (See below for a few pictures.
For the remainder of the year I will spotlight one of the rules from our Parent Student Handbook in each building newsletter.
RULE 4: CREATING A DANGEROUS OR UNSAFE CONDITION: No student shall intentionally demonstrate behaviors that put others at risk for personal, physical, or emotional health or safety.
Engagement Scenario: Monica puts soap and water in her hands and drips it all over the bathroom floor multiple times. The floor is slippery. Mary Ellen walks in, slips, and hits her head on the floor. Monica starts laughing.
Questions to Discuss: What caused Mary Ellen to fall? What should Monica have done after witnessing the fall? What would YOU do if you saw this happen?
HB 288 News: The deadline to opt out of the HB288 Child Sexual Abuse, Dating Violence and Sexual Violence curriculum is April 29, 2024. Please refer to the email previously sent (on 4/23/24) that includes curriculum details for your review, along with a link to the opt-out form if you do not wish for your child to participate.
Sincerely,
Melissa Becerra, Principal

Headphones: Spring testing is coming up and every student needs to have set of working headphones to take the test. Please check with your child and make sure they have personal headphones and they are in working condition to use during the test. This is something that we do not supply at the beginning of the year.
The spring Ohio State Tests (OST) are approaching. Please read below for details, dates, and reminders:
It is essential that all students report to school on time for testing days, as students who arrive after testing has begun will not be permitted to enter the testing room.
Each test will begin at the start of the day, either at 9:00 or 9:30 am.
If arriving late, students will be required to make up their missed test(s) on another day.
The testing schedule will change some Specials and lunch/recess times. Your child’s teacher will communicate any schedule changes.
Please remember that a good night’s rest and hearty breakfast will help your child to achieve their personal best.
Attention 4th Grade Families!

Attention 5th Grade Families!
A video and information about maturation will be shared with families mid-May. You can preview the video and information before watching it with your child. This will allow you to decide what to share and when.
Middle School Information:
On February 13th Mrs. Dorko and Mrs. Weisbarth visited the 5th grade students at Lindsey Elementary. In this visit, the 5th graders learned about the courses they will take, how to select their music choice, learned about the big changes in middle school and got their questions answered.
On May 17th, the 5th grade students will then have the opportunity to come visit WGMS and tour our building. Transportation will be provided.
Parents of incoming 6th graders will also have an informational parent night on May 9th at 6 PM at WGMS. Similar to the presentation given to the 5th graders, parents will learn about the courses students will take, changes between elementary and middle school and have an opportunity to ask questions.
Yearbook orders are now happening! ALL orders will be online only. The books are $22 dollars each.

Lindsey C.A.R.E.S. - Action Project
Lindsey C.A.R.E.S. -(Community Action Response Engagement Service)
Students supporting students was one of the lessons recently shared in an assembly at Lindsey Elementary. Last year, a third grade student at Lindsey, Madelyn Sukol, passed away. The school decided to place a bench on the playground in her memory of Madelyn. We partnered with Excel TECC welding program. Two students stepped in to make that happen, WG senior Maggie Furst and her classmate Joscelynn. They designed and created the bench for over two and half months. This bench was special as it was their very first welded project created completely on their own and for a wonderful purpose. The bench was unveiled in a recent student assembly, but will be finished at a later date with a commemorative plaque and dedicated in a special ceremony to Maddie as it’s placed on the playground. Thank you to the girls and their teacher for donating their time, hard work and material to create this special gift.
Each month our school take action to make our community a better place. Our last action, for the month of May, is giving to the organization who supported Madelyn. Stay tuned for more details soon.
Earth Day
Mr. Croff's Class from Lindsey Elementary of West Geauga Local Schools in Chesterland enjoyed cleaning up the entire school grounds, including the ditch along Caves Road. This is the 24th year that Mr. Croff has led litter cleanup at school on or around Earth Day. This is the 4th year in association with the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District. Check out the classroom's results!
Thanks to this organization, and to Mr. Croff's class, for supporting these educational opportunities -- and our planet!
The West Geauga Spirit Shop is looking for 1 or 2 volunteers to co-chair the Spirit Shop for the upcoming school year. If you are interested in learning more, please email wgab.spiritshop@westg.org
