January 24, 2025
Dear Lindsey Families,
I hope you enjoyed a few extra days off this week and stayed warm! There are some exciting events happening in the next month. We have a Book Fair, Lunch with a Loved One, a PTO Bowling Party, and Valentine's Day Parties.
Welcome Mrs. LeQuira Okolo! Colleen Clucas is retiring and her last day is on Friday, 1/31. While we will miss her dearly, we feel very fortunate to have found Mrs. Okolo! She has already met each teacher and visited each classroom full of students, and started to work full time with Mrs. Clucas. The students can call her Ms. Quira.
Mrs. Okolo brings a wealth of administrative expertise and a background of multitasking, customer service, and attention to detail. Additionally, she's a registered nurse. When you email Mrs. Clucas this upcoming week, please add Mrs. Okolo to the email. Starting Monday, 2/3/25, you will solely email Mrs. Okolo. Her email is lequira.okolo@westg.org.
MAP Testing - This week are wrapping up MAP testing with make up tests. Once all students have completed the assessment, we will print off the reports and place in envelopes to send home. There will be an email letting you know when to look for the envelope. See further information below about spring testing.
Attendance - We will keep a bar graph of Quarter 3 attendance for each grade level. This quarter, the grade level that improves the most will earn a grade-level assembly, "Science of Magic Show," on Tuesday, 5/27. The other two grade levels will still get the experience of this assembly, but they'll be together. The most improved grade will get more individualized attention. Further below is our current growth (as of Thursday, 1/23/25). So far, 5th grade is winning, with a 1% improvement from quarter 2.
Wildfire Relief: The West Geauga High School National Honor Society is taking action to help those impacted by the wildfires in California. Please see the flyer further below. Donations will be collected through Thursday, 1/30/25.
Sincerely,
Melissa Becerra, Principal

Teachers use assessment data to guide instruction. MAP, ELA Benchmarks, Math Benchmarks, and Checkpoints provide teachers insight as to how students are independently applying the strategies being taught in the classroom. Theses assessments will be given in the same manner as the ELA Benchmark students took prior to winter break. The tentative dates for these assessments are below.
Dress Warm for School
Winter weather has arrived and all students should come to school dressed appropriately. Remember to check the weather and dress accordingly.
Going outside is determined on a day by day basis with weather conditions considered. All students should be prepared to go outside everyday with the proper attire, which includes snow boots and snow pants if playing in the snow. Please send an extra pair of socks to keep in your child's book bag just in case snow gets into boots.
Appropriate dress for these cold days include hats, boots, snow pants, warm jackets, layers, scarves, and gloves or mittens for students to safely be outside for any period of time, whether it is walking to school, playing outside at recess or just running to and from the car at arrival and dismissal. It is important that children don't leave the house with exposed skin (ears, hands, legs, etc.) as this increases the chance of frostbite.
Please call the school if you need information or referrals to agencies that can help your family secure winter clothing. We want all students to be comfortable while enjoying these brisk winter days.
No Crocs or sweatshirts should be worn as outerwear during winter weather.
We have lots of lost and found items. Please make sure all of your child’s winter wear has his/her name on the inside.
School fees are now overdue. Please check Infinite Campus portal to see if you have any outstanding fees with the school. If you have any questions, please contact the office at 440-729-5980. You can pay online or by check made payable to West Geauga Local Schools. Thank you,

Attention West G parents/guardians of school bus riders - the "Here Comes the Bus" mobile app designed to provide real-time tracking and updates for school bus transportation is now live for our district. If you have not already downloaded the app, follow the instructions below.
This program is applicable only to West Geauga students assigned a transportation schedule and who ride consistently to or from any of our four buildings. To use the app, you need your child’s six digit student number that can be found on Infinite Campus and our district code, which is 87371. If you have more than one child, you will need to add each student number.
Refer to the email sent on January 17, 2025 for full details.
Your Here Comes the Bus feedback is important and we encourage you to share your experiences, both positive and negative. Please use this link to provide your feedback: Here Comes the Bus Experience Feedback.
