October 10, 2024
Dear Lindsey Families,
I hope your long weekend was relaxing and full of some outdoor fun! The month of October has some big highlights such as Fall Fest, conferences, and Halloween! Also in October, students don't have school on any Fridays. (See the list of Upcoming Events for the days off and the reasons.)
Conferences - Teachers sent out conference links last week. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you didn't receive the link.
Halloween - Details about Lindsey's Halloween Festivities are further below.
In-the-Know Testing Info: Our 3rd and 4th graders have upcoming tests. You can find details below and some tips about test anxiety further down the newsletter.
3rd Grade:
October 22 - 23
Standardized Ohio State Reading Test: This is the first standardized test that students take. This reading test is designed to assess end of the year standards. Third graders take it now to gain exposure to the testing platform and to get a baseline fall reading score. Teachers will use the results to analyze
key areas of your child’s reading strengths and challenges.
4th Grade:
November 13 - 14
Cognitive screening with the state approved Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT)
Attendance remains a top priority in our building as we strive to educate families about chronic absenteeism, which is defined as missing more than 10% of school, or 18 days in a 180-day school year. We will provide information on attendance metrics and emphasizing the importance of consistent participation in our students' academic success.
Save the Date - Lindsey's annual Veteran's Day ceremony will be held Monday, November 11th at 9:00am. Lindsey families of attending veterans are welcome. Watch for further details to be emailed soon.
Sincerely,
Melissa Becerra, Principal

LINDSEY HALLOWEEN PARADE AND PARTIES
Thursday, Oct 31, 2024
Costume Parade: 9:15-9:35 a.m.
Class Parties: 9:45-10:15 a.m. (5th Grade: grade-level party in Gym)
Weather permitting, students will parade outside the perimeter of the Lindsey school building. Families are invited to stand on the front sidewalk. Students will parade on the blacktop, coming out by the band room and walk the length of the sidewalk in the front of the building and return through the art room doors.
In case of inclement weather, guests may enter the front doors and line up around the perimeter of the gymnasium for the parade indoors. Please note, all visitors MUST adhere to the same costume guidelines as students, should adults choose to dress up for the costume parade. Furthermore, all adults must adhere to our WG mask guidance.
Classroom parties will be from 9:45-10:15 a.m. Only the homeroom parent (assigned by PTO) and party helpers arranged by the homeroom parent will be permitted to attend the classroom party. The office staff will have a list of parents who are helping with parties. All helpers MUST sign in.
Please communicate with your child’s homeroom teacher if you do not want your child to participate in the party and parade as an alternate location/activity will be available.
COSTUME GUIDELINES (costumes are optional)
All staff reserve the right to ask students and visitors to change costumes in a manner acceptable for the school. Students are expected to wear a costume compatible with the WG mask guidance.
1. No weapons of any kind are permitted.
2. Each person must be easy to identify.
3. Costumes may not include blood, mutilated or severed body parts.
4. Dress code rules pertaining to appropriate bodily coverage still apply.
5. Students must come to school prepared with all costume parts. Students must be able to get dressed with little or no assistance from the teacher. If they do not come to school dressed, they will have 5 minutes to change. If a student must wear parts of his/her costume to school, he/she must be able to fully participate in class and focus on learning. He/she needs to be able to sit comfortably in his/her seat and participate in recess.
6. Students will not be allowed to spray paint hair or face paint while at school.
7. Total covering of face with hoods is not permitted.
Thank you to the West Geauga High School Marching Band for visiting and sharing their musical talents with the Lindsey students!
The next Lindsey PTO meeting is Thursday, October 10 at 6 PM at My Thai (Note the location change!) Skating Party date change- now Wednesday, October 23, see updated flyer below.
