Dear Lindsey Families,
We have had many exciting events occur the past two weeks. Students enjoyed the Halloween parties and parade. Thank you to the PTO for organizing such a fun event! Our Sleep in Heavenly Peace Action was a huge success! As a district we collected $2,285.28! Out of that, Lindsey collected $1,248.01, more than half of the total amount! Here are some quotes that Mrs. Wyatt's students shared about the action.
“I like how kids get a bed with my donation so they don’t have to sleep on
the floor.”
“I like being comfy while helping other kids get a bed.”
"I like how it makes me feel very warm inside because I like helping others.”
“I like to feel that when I donate money, it’s going to make someone happy.”
“I like that kids will sleep better in a warm bed instead of the cold floor.”
Last week we had our first ACE Award Celebration, honoring 54 students in our school who were nominated by teachers for showing ACE-like behavior: Attitude, Citizenship, and Effort.
Our school has two action projects happening right now: "Thanksgiving Baskets of Love" and "Treats for Troops." Our action in December will be collecting new/gently used books for Cleveland Kids' Book Bank. Stay tuned for more details soon! Students coupling learning with action provides perspective and kindness.
On Friday we celebrated Veterans' Day. Our Veterans Day Celebration was a success! We had about 110 people (veterans, and their guests), in attendance. During the program each grade level sang a song and some 5th grade Student Council members talked about what it means to serve. Afterwards Veterans walked the hallways where the Lindsey students waved flags, sang a song, and clapped for the veterans. It was a great tribute to veterans and their families. Thank you to Scout Packs 3104 and 3193 for helping with the reception and performing the Color Guard. Thank you the PTO for making the slide show and providing the reception treats. Most importantly, THANK YOU to the veterans! Pictures and a link to the slideshow will come in the next newsletter.
On Monday we held a Social Media & Digital Safety event with the Middle School. Thank you to Lindsey’s SSO, Officer Sweet, for helping to plan the event, and to Officer Rowland for offering advice and information. Investigator Warner's presentation is linked HERE. On Thursday, he presented about digital safety to each grade level. Students were attentive and asked good questions. The links for grade level presentations follow: Grades 3-5 – Grades 6-8 Additionally, this is a great website to explore the topic of social media and digital safety.
We are looking forward to several more events as we move into the Winter Season! We kick off our book fair next week. Please check out all of the other events we have planned in this newsletter.
Sincerely,
Melissa Becerra, Principal
