Dear Lindsey Families,
We are now in our 4th, and last, quarter of the 2023-2024 school year. Report cards are now posted to Infinite Campus. Please spend some time reviewing teacher comments and grades with your child. The fourth quarter will go by quickly!
We started a new tradition last week for Lindsey Elementary, a musical. This is the first musical since the buildings merged and the first musical since the pandemic. Thank to you to the 31 cast members for sharing their talents! Thanks the middle school and high school volunteers, and to the students' families for dedicating hours of volunteering and continuous support. A big thank you to Mrs. Harrison, Mr. Reich, and Mrs. Milnar for producing and directing the musical!
For the remainder of the year I will spotlight one of the rules from our Parent Student Handbook in each building newsletter. I had a great conversation with a parent a couple of weeks ago about the handbook and we brainstormed this idea as a way to remind students and families about the handbook.
RULE 7. BULLYING, HARASSMENT, INTIMIDATION, RACIAL, RELIGIOUS OR NATIONAL ORIGIN SLURS, BIGOTRY AND INTOLERANCE: We want all students at school to feel safe physically, emotionally, and socially. Racial slurs and bullying are taken seriously. There are no "passes" for racial slurs. Both have consequences, as well as learning experiences
Engagement Scenario: Amanda overhears a peer use a racial slur to another student. This makes her feel uncomfortable.
She has 6 options: laugh, ignore, walk away, tell a trusted adult, firmly state that words like that are wrong and unkind, or go tell the targeted student what that person said.
What should Amanda do and say, and why? What should she not do and say, and why? (There is more than one right answer.)
Have a great spring break! I look forward to seeing students back at Lindsey on Tuesday, 4/2/24. (Please note, we have the Solar Eclipse Day, April 8th, off as well.)
Sincerely,
Melissa Becerra, Principal

The spring Ohio State Tests (OST) are approaching. Please read below for details, dates, and reminders:
It is essential that all students report to school on time for testing days, as students who arrive after testing has begun will not be permitted to enter the testing room.
Each test will begin at the start of the day, either at 9:00 or 9:30 am.
If arriving late, students will be required to make up their missed test(s) on another day.
The testing schedule will change some Specials and lunch/recess times. Your child’s teacher will communicate any schedule changes.
Please remember that a good night’s rest and hearty breakfast will help your child to achieve their personal best.
This month’s Lindsey C.A.R.E.S (Community Action Response Engagement Service) project is a food drive to support the Claridon Community Helps organization, which helps to feed Geauga county families during the summer months. While our other buildings are also supporting this organization, Lindsey Elementary found a unique way to combine the food drive with the elementary Little Mermaid Jr. Musical. Each student was encouraged to bring in their donation as a “ticket” to watch the student-only performance. The generosity was overwhelming. Thank you, Lindsey families, for your support of the project as we continue to teach our students the value of helping others.
As the school year progresses, our Lindsey reading caterpillar has grown! Students have expanded the caterpillar with all kinds of fiction and nonfiction books. Third, fourth, and fifth graders can keep the caterpillar growing by reading even more!
What’s even better than one caterpillar? Two caterpillars! Parents, grandparents, teachers, staff, custodians, bus drivers, anyone in the Lindsey community can unite to create a grownup caterpillar. Read a book, fill out the circle (caterpillar’s body), and send in your completed form to the office. Please reach out to Teresa Hill (teresa.hill@westg.org) if you would like hard copies sent home (rather than printing at home).
Students who demonstrate outstanding Upstander qualities will be honored on the Upstander Wall of Fame bulletin board from now until the end of the year. The student’s picture and reason for nomination will be proudly displayed for all of Lindsey to see! Upstander qualities include strong leadership skills, positive communication, standing up for others, and being a role model in the community.
Which grade will win the attendance award?! All grade levels are competing to see who has the highest overall attendance rate. Parents and Guardians, please remember that good school attendance supports children's confidence and happiness about school and learning. YOU can help your child enjoy school life to the full by ensuring they attend school every day and arrive on time!
An under the sea experience was brought live to the stage at Lindsey Elementary. Students in the 5th grade class entertained audiences with The Little Mermaid Jr. musical. The cast and crew, with the help of many parent and staff volunteers, organized this production in an impressive six-week timeframe. A special thank you to the PTO for supporting this musical and raising funds so the shows can continue in future years. We are so proud of the students for their hard work and dedication. We hope you didn’t miss out – it was certainly an entertaining show for all ages.
It's time to order your yearbook for this school year! Please use the link below to start the ordering process.

Attention Parents of Middle Schoolers in the 24-25 school year,
The middle school PTO is in desperate need of parents who may be interested in a leadership role for the 24-25 school year. Please come to the next meeting on May 9th at 7:00 in the WGMS Library to learn more. Without PTO participation and leadership, unfortunately, the activities/events the kids look forward to would be compromised. We need YOU! Please reach out to Meagan Bellan at meagan.bellan@westg.org for any questions!
Lindsey PTO is looking for board members for the 2024/25 school year!
It is fundamental to our organization that we fill the board with interested and dedicated parents who are committed to the well-being of our students, staff, and families. Elections will be held at our next meeting on Tuesday April 2 at 6pm.
If you are interested in a board position or know someone who is worthy of nomination, please contact our Nominating Committee at lindseypto@gmail.com
Monday Munchies
Monday Munchies is a great way to show our appreciation for our R.C. Lindsey Elementary teachers and staff. We're asking YOU to provide 3-4 dozen treats. Decadent or nutritious, homemade or purchased with love, the choice is yours. Thank you for making Mondays a little more enjoyable!
