Dear Lindsey Families,
Happy March! March signifies the start of spring, excitement for spring break, and Daylight Savings. Here's a fun joke for you: Why did the clock go on a diet? Because it wanted to lose an hour! (Thanks to a 3rd grader for providing that joke and for making me laugh out loud in the hallway!)
Spring also brings warmer outdoor recesses. A friendly reminder about recess: Electronics should not be brought to recess.
Lindsey C.A.R.E.S. (Community Action Response Engagement Service): Lindsey's next action project is a food drive to support families in Geauga county during the summer months. We are combining the food drive with the student performance of The Little Mermaid. Please see the flier below for more information about this project.
SAVE THE DATE: The 5th grade production of The Little Mermaid is underway. There will be three opportunities to see the show. Information about tickets are in the flier further down in the newsletter. (The first flier is for the student performance. Keep scrolling for ticket information.) Friday, 3/15 at 6:30 pm, Saturday, 3/16, at 1:00 pm, and Saturday, 3/16 at 5:00 pm.
For the remainder of the year I will spotlight one of the rules from our Parent Student Handbook in each building newsletter. I had a great conversation with a parent this week about the handbook and we brainstormed this idea as a way to remind students and families about the handbook.
RULE 9. DISHONESTY: Honesty is a core value at West Geauga Local Schools and is expected at all times. Dishonest behavior will not be tolerated in any form. Students shall not lie about, fabricate, distort, or change the information given to any individual, school staff, or administration.
Engagement Scenario: Mia is responsible for taking care of the class pet, a small hamster named Whiskers, over the weekend. The teacher emphasizes the importance of providing fresh food and water for Whiskers and recording any observations in a pet care journal.
However, Mia forgets to feed Whiskers and doesn't record anything in the journal. Worried that she might get in trouble, she decides to make up a fictional entry in the journal, describing how she played with Whiskers and gave him a special treat over the weekend.
When the teacher reads the journal entries on Monday, she becomes suspicious because the details seem exaggerated and inconsistent with Whiskers' behavior. The teacher decides to discuss the entries with Mia and asks her more about the weekend care routine.
What should Mia do and say, and why?
Sincerely,
Melissa Becerra, Principal

The spring Ohio State Tests (OST) are approaching. Please read below for details, dates, and reminders:
It is essential that all students report to school on time for testing days, as students who arrive after testing has begun will not be permitted to enter the testing room.
Each test will begin at the start of the day, either at 9:00 or 9:30 am.
If arriving late, students will be required to make up their missed test(s) on another day.
The testing schedule will change some Specials and lunch/recess times. Your child’s teacher will communicate any schedule changes.
Please remember that a good night’s rest and hearty breakfast will help your child to achieve their personal best.

An Online Safety Parent Presentation was held for high school and middle school parents. As a follow-up to the discussion, several parents requested resources for monitoring and implementing parental controls on their child's social media. Below is a list compiled by the ESC of Northeast Ohio that you may find helpful.
Bark Parental Controls -
Bark monitors texts, email, YouTube, and 30+ apps and social media platforms for signs of issues like cyberbullying, sexual content, online predators, depression, suicidal ideation, threats of violence, and more. Families can manage when their kids can access the internet on their devices, as well as which sites they’re able to visit. You can set bedtimes and block access to a wide variety of websites — including streaming, gaming, and adult content, and more.
InternetMatters.org -
Online safety tips/Guide for parents of 11–13-year-olds
Set Up Safe Checklist: Set your child up for online safely with these simple tasks.
ConnectSafely -

Outdoor Recess:
Please be prepared with the proper clothing to go outside for recess. Make sure that boots, snow pants, hats, gloves and coats all have your students name on them so we can return them if lost
