Dear Lindsey Families,
As we approach the final week of school, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our students, staff, and families for their dedication and hard work throughout the year. This week will be filled with exciting events, celebrations, and opportunities to reflect on our achievements. Let's cherish these last moments together, celebrate our accomplishments, and look forward to a well-deserved summer break. Thank you for being a vital part of our school community.
One School, One Book: Students finished reading "The One and Only Ivan," and enjoyed the story about friendship, compassion, and standing up for what is right. Each day a vocabulary word was highlighted. Students were encouraged to use the word throughout the day. As a culminating activity, students watched the movie and enjoyed animal crackers.
Field Day-Wednesday May 29th. Lunch will be provided by PTO. The cafeteria will be closed. PTO will be serving pizza, chips and water. You can also pack your lunch if desired.
5th grade Moving Up Celebration is scheduled for Thursday, May 30, 2024 in the Lindsey Elementary Gym. The celebration will happen in two sessions - please see the schedule below. Each student is welcome to invite two VIPs to attend his or her event. Due to space capacity, we do need to limit the number of guests to two. After each ceremony, we will clap out our students with their guests in our company. A school-wide internal building clap out (without parents) will occur at the end of the day, so it's important that all students remain at the school following the conclusion of each ceremony.
Ceremony #1: 9:30 - 10:30 AM: 5th Grade Homerooms Coletta, Ehrbar, Lesko and Reich
* Due to morning transportation, please do not arrive before 9:00 AM. You can park in the front parking lot. Guests will depart at 10:30 AM.
Ceremony #2: 12:45 - 1:45 PM: 5th Grade Homerooms Fitz, Kulp and Razzante
* Guests depart at 1:45 PM.
MAP Family Reports will go home on Wednesday, May 29th in a sealed envelope in your child's Take Home Folder. If you don't see it on Wednesday, contact the office for a copy.
Save the Date: Lindsey's Open House is scheduled for Thursday, August 15th. This will be an Open House format, where families walk around, meet teachers, and complete a Scavenger Hunt while touring the school.

Our Lindsey CARES project for A Special Wish was a huge success. We collected items to fill over 21 suitcases to give to families in need.
A Special Wish helped a former Lindsey student who passed last year during her time with us. Friday afternoon we had a bench dedication ceremony in the student's honor. The bench will be placed on the 5th grade playground.
Nature Writing Contest: Mrs. Hocevar's students participated in the Geauga Parks Writing Contest and one earned “Honorable Mention." This year’s contest attracted a record-smashing 351 entries before Earth Day! Congratulations to Sean Walsh for receiving the distinguished honorable mention for his poem Rock Life. (https://geaugaparkdistrict.org/nwc-2024-winners/)
Poetry Competition: Last year a student in Mrs. Hocevar's 3rd grade class entered a poem into the "Empowered Poetry" competition. Empowered brings critical acclaim to the work of many exceptional young authors from across the United States. Only a small percentage of students who submit poetry will be published. In fact, less than 20 percent of all submissions were included in the new 2023 Student Poetry Collection. Congratulation to Traveler Southard who recently received news that his poetry was published! Maturation is a significant milestone for you and your child. It is a time full of change that can feel both exciting and overwhelming. Preparing students with accurate information and ensuring they have a supportive network can help them navigate this part of their life with confidence.
We are committed to providing a comprehensive education that encompasses not only academic growth but also personal development. We recognize that teaching maturation is necessary and developmentally appropriate for children at various stages of development. While some students may reach this stage earlier and require education sooner, other families may prefer to wait until a later time due to various factors.
We want to provide families with an optional resource to help disseminate appropriate information about social, emotional, and physical change during the maturation process. This video is designed to give students a healthy view of puberty and adolescence allowing for continued discussion with your child in a way that you deem appropriate.
This is a widely used resource that many surrounding districts have used to help teach this topic. We realize that families may have other ways to provide this instruction to their children so this is simply one resource that may be utilized by families.
We appreciate your ongoing support to help ensure our children are prepared to take on the changes that they will experience in this next, exciting chapter!
Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Dana Clark, our district nurse, at dana.clark@westg.org.

Parent/Guardian Booklet: The booklet serves as a guide to educate and prepare parents/guardians for engaging in conversations with their children about puberty. It supports parents/guardians in navigating their child’s journey to become a strong, healthy, and confident young adult.
