Dear Lindsey Families,
We had a great first week of school! Students came into the classrooms with smiles, hugs and high fives, and were eager to meet their new teacher(s) and classmates. Teachers focused on helping children feel comfortable and safe in their new environment and focus on making connections with students. The first week is all about setting the tone for the rest of the school year, establishing routines, and introducing rules and expectations in a gentle and encouraging way. There’s a lot of energy as everyone adjusts to new schedules, but it’s also a time for building friendships, sparking curiosity, and fostering a love for learning that will last all year long.
To kick-start the year, every class is reading Donovan's Word Jar. Students will be collecting, organizing, and sorting words. This is a great way to build vocabulary, work knowledge, curiosity, and build our school community. I've seen many students searching for interesting words, discussing the words, and finding patterns. If you'd like to read the story, here's a link to the book.
Thank you for hanging in there while the first week of transportation eases into a routine. On Thursday we had everyone out of the building in 9 minutes (pick ups and buses). That's a huge decrease from the first day of school.
Thanks to everyone who came out to our Scavenger-Hunt-Style-Open House! The goal was to have an interactive event where students and families toured the school, met teachers, and participated in school-wide activities. Mission accomplished! We had a great turn out, more than last year. The same staggered start time as last year wasn't staggered enough for parking. We're already discussing ways to solve this "positive problem" for next year. Teachers will share their presentations with families so that you can review for your reference.
Students will begin MAP testing the week of September 9th. The MAP testing schedule is below.
Second Step: We will continue to use Second Step as our social-emotional learning curriculum. This includes anti-bullying/harassment lessons and will be embedded in social studies classes throughout the school year. For the curriculum scope and sequence, see this document. If you have any questions about the Second Step program, please reach out to your building principal for more information. Thank you for supporting your child in learning the skills that lead to success in school and in life.
Sincerely,
Melissa Becerra, Principal

Look closely at this display. Three 5th grade classes (Coletta, Lesko, Reich) visually represented how they are all connected to each other.
MORNING:
We start letting students into the building at 8:30 am. Buses drop off at front doors.
For parent morning drop-offs, we would like families to drop off students in the side parking lot. You will get into 3 - 4 lines and these will funnel into one line of 7 cars that runs the length of the sidewalk to drop off students. Students will be directed to walk down the sidewalk and enter through the front doors. Students may exit cars starting at 8:35 am. Staff will be outside to monitor students starting at 8:35 am. (See the map below.)
Please know that if your child is having breakfast at school, this will need to be efficient so that all students can get to class as quickly as possible. Our goal is to have everyone unloaded and in classrooms by 8:50 am for classes to begin. Please do not drop students off in the front lot until after 9:00 am. This is due to buses still pulling in at that time.
AFTERNOON:
If you are picking up your child at the end of the day, please be sure to complete the End of Day Transportation form found on the Lindsey website. If this is a permanent situation, please specify that in the notes sections. Parents pickup students at the side of building. Form 3 lines that funnel into one line next to sidewalk.
If there is any change in the normal schedule (ie: early pick up, change in daily routine), please make sure you fill out the early release option on the electronic form. Students should be picked up by 2:45 pm. The form will close daily at 9:30 am - after that time, please email or the call office.
Students are released to the pick-up line at 3:15. Please have the car tag visible in your car. If you have a car tag from last year, you can use that.
Personal Items:
Please label all personal items that your student brings to school so we can return anything that is misplaced. This includes your student’s backpack and water bottle brought daily.
Dress Code:
Please dress appropriately for the weather as students will be indoors and outside during the school day. Following the Elementary Student Handbook, bare midriffs, tank tops, muscle shirts and transparent shirts, and spaghetti-strap tops are not permitted. Shorts must be of appropriate length and in good taste. Students must wear close-toed shoes for recess safety.
Looking to get supplies for the upcoming school year?
The school fees you pay cover all school supplies for your child. We do ask that each student bring a water bottle (reusable and plastic) and personal headphones. If you'd like to contribute additional supplies, we are asking for the following optional items: Dixie cups (3 oz or 5 oz), Ziploc bags (gallon, quart or snack), disinfectant wipes, and Kleenex.
