Dear Lindsey Families,
We are already heading into our fourth week of school, and it’s amazing to see how quickly students have settled into their routines! Classrooms are buzzing with excitement as students dive deeper into their lessons and continue building friendships. Our teachers have been working hard to create engaging and fun learning experiences. A big thank you to parents for your ongoing support at home—it truly makes a difference!
To kick-start the year, every class is reading Donovan's Word Jar. Students will be collecting, organizing, and sorting words. This is a great way to build vocabulary, word knowledge, curiosity, and build our school community. I've seen many students searching for interesting words, discussing the words, and finding patterns. If you'd like to read the story, here's a link to the book.
Students began MAP testing (Math) on Thursday and Friday. MAP Reading and MAP Science (for 5th graders) will be administered this coming up week. The MAP testing schedule is below. When all of the tests are complete, we'll send home the family report.
Laps for Lindsey is the biggest PTO fundraiser of the year, and it's just around the corner! Information about this event went home earlier this week. Students are preparing and getting energized for this school-wide celebration, fundraiser, and healthy event on Friday, September 20th!
Sincerely,
Melissa Becerra, Principal

Donovan's Word Jar - After reading the story, students are collecting their own words. Here are some examples.
Math Fun
Recess Fun
Popsicle Drill - Thank you to our PTO for providing popsicles for our first ever "Popsicle Drill." This surprise drill was announced as essential for our safety and one we've never done before. I told students that it would be the hardest drill ever! Fortunately, students understood my humor and were delightfully surprised that the drill after the fire drill involved a cool tasty treat. What a fun way to stay cool!
Principal Gotcha Stickers - On Thursday, a new version of our Gotcha stickers was released. If your child comes home with a golden Gotcha, he/she received it from Mrs Becerra. The two students below were the first to get Principal Gotchas.
MORNING:
We start letting students into the building at 8:35 am. Buses drop off at front doors.
For parent morning drop-offs, we would like families to drop off students in the side parking lot. You will get into 3 - 4 lines and these will funnel into one line of 7 cars that runs the length of the sidewalk to drop off students. Students will be directed to walk down the sidewalk and enter through the front doors. Students may exit cars starting at 8:35 am. Staff will be outside to monitor students starting at 8:35 am. (See the map below.)
Please know that if your child is having breakfast at school, this will need to be efficient so that all students can get to class as quickly as possible. Our goal is to have everyone unloaded and in classrooms by 8:50 am for classes to begin. Please do not drop students off in the front lot until after 9:00 am. This is due to buses still pulling in at that time.
AFTERNOON:
If you are picking up your child at the end of the day, please be sure to complete the End of Day Transportation form found on the Lindsey website. If this is a permanent situation, please specify that in the notes sections. Parents pickup students at the side of building. Form 3 lines that funnel into one line next to sidewalk.
If there is any change in the normal schedule (ie: early pick up, change in daily routine), please make sure you fill out the early release option on the electronic form. Students should be picked up by 2:45 pm. The form will close daily at 9:30 am - after that time, please email or the call office.
Students are released to the pick-up line at 3:15. Please have the car tag visible in your car. If you have a car tag from last year, you can use that.
Personal Items:
Please label all personal items that your student brings to school so we can return anything that is misplaced. This includes your student’s backpack and water bottle brought daily.
Dress Code:
Please dress appropriately for the weather as students will be indoors and outside during the school day. Following the Elementary Student Handbook, bare midriffs, tank tops, muscle shirts and transparent shirts, and spaghetti-strap tops are not permitted. Shorts must be of appropriate length and in good taste. Students must wear close-toed shoes for recess safety.
We are disappointed to announce that the WG Rock the Block party tonight (September 6, 2024) has been CANCELED due to the predicted afternoon thunderstorms. We hope to reschedule on another date soon!
