West Geauga Earns Top Honors on 2024 School Report Card
The West Geauga Local School District is proud to announce that West Geauga is one of only 18 districts in Ohio to receive a District Five Star Award and five stars across each of the five components of the 2024 Ohio School Report Card issued by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. Those components are: Achievement, Progress, Gap Closing, Graduation, and Early Literacy.
Of the 18 districts to achieve this distinction, seven rank among Ohio's Top Ten districts in terms of academic achievement as measured by the District Performance Index. West Geauga is one of only seven of Ohio's 607 school districts to earn a Five Star Award and five stars in each report card component while scoring in the Top Ten in student achievement as measured by the District Performance Index.
Dr. Rich Markwardt, Superintendent, notes "We are tremendously proud of the collective efforts of our students, staff, Board of Education and community who made these two accomplishments possible."
The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
Qualifying Criteria
For a school to be recognized on the AP School Honor Roll in a given year, it must:
Meet each of the following criteria for their students in the most recent graduating class; these criteria are anchored in research-based relationships between AP and college outcomes:
College Culture: 40% or more of the graduating cohort took at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
College Credit: 25% or more of the graduating cohort scored a 3 or higher on at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
College Optimization: 2% or more of the graduating cohort took 5 or more AP Exams during high school. At least 1 of those exams was taken in 9th or 10th grade, so that students are spreading their AP experience across grades rather than feeling disproportionate pressure in any single year.
Have full-time grade-12 enrollments. AP coordinators can update this information online in AP Registration and Ordering. Learn how.
Be located within the United States (including U.S. territories) or Canada.
Fall MAP results are being sent home with students. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Dorko at kari.dorko@westg.org

THANK YOU to our wonderful Upper School PTO who went above and beyond to show their appreciation last week. They organized and provided a delicious dinner teachers enjoyed during Parent/Teacher conferences, ensuring we were well-fed for the evening. They also generously supplied our kitchen with new items to improve our daily experience!
Their thoughtfulness and generosity demonstrate the strong community support we are fortunate to have at West G. These acts of kindness not only make our work environment more comfortable but also remind us of the appreciation our community has for the work we do.
Thank you Upper School PTO!
