Happy New Year! We hope this message finds you well. We are excited for the second half of the year as our students continue to work hard and show remarkable diligence. Their efforts are truly appreciated.
We are so fortunate to have the supportive families and community that we do. Thank you for your ongoing partnership; it makes a significant difference in our students' success.
Curriculum Updates:
Digital World: Given the complexities of the digital world our students face, we have partnered with the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio to provide a two-day instructional series for our students that will occur in science classes on February 24th and February 25th.
With today’s students, constant connectivity is a way of life. The challenge is how we prepare them for living safely in a digital world as students gain access to the Internet at increasingly younger ages.
This series is meant to empower youth to make good and informed decisions in the digital world. It is not solely an ‘internet safety’ program, and does not implore scare tactics. Rather, it uses developmentally appropriate language, situations and discussion to build a foundation for healthy, safe and positive use of both the internet and social media.
If you prefer your child not participate in this program, please contact your child's science teacher or Mrs. Bellan at meagan.bellan@westg.org by February 14, 2024.
Family MAP Reports will be sent home with students on January 15. If your student is missing theirs, please reach out to Becky Edwards at 440-729-5948 to obtain a new copy.
DARE: Dare will begin this month for our 7th graders during their elective rotation!
Reminder - School and athletic fees must be paid through Infinite Campus or you can write a check made out to West Geauga Board of Education. If you have not paid, fees are past due and must be paid promptly. Please contact Becky Edwards at becky.edwards@westg.org with any questions.
Sincerely,
Meagan Bellan, Principal

Tardy Policy
Please be aware, that we are issuing consequences for unexcused tardiness to school. Each morning, we will track that students are in their first period class ready to learn by 7:25 am. If a student were to earn 3 unexcused tardies, a lunch detention will be issued. Lunch detentions will continue to be issued if a student hits 6 unexcused tardies and at 9 unexcused tardies in the quarter. If a student accumulates 12 or more unexcused tardies to school, an In-School Restriction will be issued. At WGMS, we are aligning our student tardy policy with the student tardy policy at WGHS to establish consistency. Please reach out to Miss Moeschberger should you have any questions.
Please grab a friend, fill your Yeti with cider, cocoa, or a warm bevvy of choice, and join us on Wednesday, January 15 at 7:00 PM at the Geauga West Library for our next General Meeting.
Note: The Parent Engagement Committee meeting will begin at 6:15 PM for those looking to be more involved at the individual school level. This is a great opportunity for folks who want to see kiddos in-person during the school day!
We have lots to share, discuss, and plan for the Spring and we hope you will join us! As always, minutes from the meeting will be emailed for your review, and we welcome your feedback and ideas.
The 7th Grade Class won the PTO Membership Drive and celebrated today with a pizza party at lunchtime. Thank you to all of the families who have joined the PTO this year and continue to support our school. We are so appreciative!
