January 26, 2024
What an unusual January it's been!
As a reminder, our school doors do not open until 7:05. If you plan on dropping your student off before that time, please be sure they are dressed appropriately to wait outside.
Our DARE program for 7th graders began this week. This program teaches students ways to resist drugs and violence. The Geauga County Sheriff's department will be leading this program in 7th grade social studies classes every week.
We have reached our maximum number of students and teachers to attend our 7th grade Pittsburgh trip. However, we are working with the tour company to make some adjustments to include all 7th graders who would like to attend. Please add your student to the waitlist, and you will be contacted when a space opens up.
For all student trips, please be sure to check out the West Geauga Middle School website for updated information. There are several dates that need special attention, such as final payment and medical forms due. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes in terms of planning these events, so please don't wait until the last minute!
Spring Testing is on the horizon, beginning in April. Look for more communication to be sent on Monday.

Our top 6 that will move on to the district bee are: Vera, Michael, Darren, Joe, Sky, and Ellie. Michael, a 6th grader, was our last one standing at the middle school Wishing you all the best of luck at the next round!

WGMS families, please be aware that starting on April 2nd, upon our return from spring break, we will be issuing consequences for unexcused tardiness to school. Each morning, we will track that students are in their first period class ready to learn by the bell. If a student were to earn 3 unexcused tardies, a lunch detention will be issued. Lunch detentions will continue to be issued if a student hits 6 unexcused tardies and at 9 unexcused tardies in the quarter. If a student accumulates 12 or more unexcused tardies to school, an In-School Restriction will be issued. At WGMS, we are aligning our student tardy policy with the student tardy policy at WGHS to establish consistency. Please reach out to Mrs. Dorko should you have any questions.
Attention 7th and 8th grade students interested in CCP: CCP is an opportunity to take college courses at West Geauga. To be able to participate, you must turn in an intent form by the state mandated deadline of April 1st. If you have any questions about CCP or want to learn more, please see our counselor, Mrs. Weisbarth, or email at lindsey.weisbarth@westg.org.
As the second semester is underway, we are beginning to think about scheduling for next school year. In preparation, the West Geauga High School counselors will be coming into Social Studies classes on February 21 to present to the 8th graders. In this presentation, the 8th graders will learn about the courses to take next, ask questions, future planning and more. That same night, the high school counselors will also provide a parent presentation at the high school in room 124 at 7:00 PM. At this meeting you will learn about high school scheduling, graduation requirements and the high school's policies and procedures. See the flyer below!
Our deadline has been extended until Feb 2! Please continue to bring those books in!
