Attendance at WGMS
Attendance continues to be a top priority in our building and we are off to an incredible start. In the newsletter, we will continue to provide families information related to attendance and chronic absenteeism in an effort to inform and educate. Our goal is to eliminate chronic absenteeism which is defined by missing more than 10% of school for any reason. This means that students who miss 18 days or more in a 180 day school year are chronically absent. It can be challenging to keep track of time that your child misses and we will be sure to let families know monthly if their child is approaching or exceeding this 10% metric. We sincerely appreciate our partnership toward this pursuit. Again, this school year is off to a fantastic start and we are thrilled with our student attendance at the middle school to kickoff the 24-25 school year. Thank you for all of your efforts!
8th Grade Trip:
We would like to offer a fundraising opportunity to our students to help with the expense of the 8th grade trip to DC. With that said, we will be sending flyers home soon. The selling of this merchandise will occur between October 3 and October 17, 2024. The money that is fundraised by the 8th graders will be shared evenly among the student travellers to help offset the trip expense. The goodies will need to be picked up from school on November 14th from 3:00-5:00 in the WGMS cafeteria. Because most of the treats are frozen, it is imperative that families are able to pick up that date/time. More information is in the flyers below.
Please mark your calendars for these important dates:
6th Grade Camp Fitch: May 12-14
Detailed agenda can be found here!
As the planning for these trips unfolds, the linked websites will be the primary way parents can get all of the details they need about the trip.
On February 12, 2025 at 5:00 pm in the WGMS cafeteria, we will hear from Scott Raines, Camp Director, and a representative from Camp Fitch to hear more details about 6th grade camp.
Reminders:
Picture retakes will occur on October 25th.
If you have not done so, please be sure to complete your Census Review through Infinite Campus. Click on the Menu>More>Online Registration. We only have 7 families left for 100% completion!
School and athletic fees can be paid through Infinite Campus as well, or you can write a check made out to West Geauga Board of Education. If you have not paid, fees are now past due and must be paid promptly. Please contact Becky Edwards at becky.edwards@westg.org with any questions.
Sincerely,

Parent Teacher Conferences
Good parent-teacher communication is important for the success of your child. The West Geauga Middle School wishes to promote this communication by providing time for parents to confer individually with any of their child's teachers. This year's conferences will take place on Tuesday, Oct 1 from 5-8 pm and on Thursday, Oct 10 from 5-8 pm.
In order to accomodate all of the parents attending conferences, we are requesting parents with last names starting A-L attend on October 1st, while those with last names starting M-Z attend on October 10. There will be no pre-scheduled conferences and instead parents can have a quick chat with any of their child's teachers whom they wish to meet. These conferences should take about 5 minutes so other families have an opportunity to talk to any of their child's teachers.
Please note: Our Band and Choir teachers, as well as our OT/Speech teachers, will be in attendance at the Middle School on October 1st only.
We ask that students NOT attend these conferences.
Tardy Policy
Please be aware, that we are issuing consequences for unexcused tardiness to school. Each morning, we will track that students are in their first period class ready to learn by 7:25 am. If a student were to earn 3 unexcused tardies, a lunch detention will be issued. Lunch detentions will continue to be issued if a student hits 6 unexcused tardies and at 9 unexcused tardies in the quarter. If a student accumulates 12 or more unexcused tardies to school, an In-School Restriction will be issued. At WGMS, we are aligning our student tardy policy with the student tardy policy at WGHS to establish consistency. Please reach out to Miss Moeschberger should you have any questions.
