Welcome WGHS Class of 2028!
Scheduling for the 2024-2025 school year has begun for our 8th grade students heading to WGHS! Parents/Guardians, please be aware that your student has been asked to select their electives and speak with their teachers about their recommendations for high school courses. The information linked below has been shared with students via the Class of 2028 Google Classroom and through email. There will be a counselor available at the middle school to assist students while Mrs. Weisbarth is out of the office.
As a parent or guardian, if you have any specific questions, input or concerns related to your student's upcoming course load and schedule for next year, please don't hesitate to contact your student's assigned high school counselor. Additionally, be sure to ask your student to share their Academic Planner with you, which indicates potential elective course selections. The date to have it filled out has been extended to March 15. Our counselors' role is to advocate for your student and collaboratively create a schedule that appropriately challenges them based on their interests and aspirations.
This scheduling period is an important one, so please have an open discussion with your student about their hopes and plans for certain courses or academic pathways. Then feel free to follow up with their counselor as needed.
To celebrate your students’ school journey thus far from Kindergarten through 8th grade, we’re working on a photo slideshow for the 8th grade reception in May 2024, but we need your photos to include! Specifically, we’re looking for 2 photos in total for each student: one photo of your 8th grader from Kindergarten or elementary school and one current photo. If you have group photos and candids from events (like -sports teams, clubs, class parties, group class photos) at West G that include members of the class of 2028, please send those along too! We’ll collect them through April 15, 2024. Please follow this link https://forms.gle/owgAj9ZTekAE7jo18 or use the QBR code below to access the Google form where the photos can be uploaded.
The form does require a Google account, if you don't have one or prefer not to use it, you can also email photos of your 8th graders to wggrade8pics@pwohio.com. If you use the email option, please just remember to include your name or preferred contact (for questions), your student’s name (as it should be shown in the slideshow) and the grades or ages for the photos. If the photos are of events, please provide the event name and school year. Thanks for your help! Looking forward to a fun celebration of our students in May!
WGMS families, please be aware that starting on April 2nd, upon our return from spring break, we will be issuing consequences for unexcused tardiness to school. Each morning, we will track that students are in their first period class ready to learn by the bell. If a student were to earn 3 unexcused tardies, a lunch detention will be issued. Lunch detentions will continue to be issued if a student hits 6 unexcused tardies and at 9 unexcused tardies in the quarter. If a student accumulates 12 or more unexcused tardies to school, an In-School Restriction will be issued. At WGMS, we are aligning our student tardy policy with the student tardy policy at WGHS to establish consistency. Please reach out to Mrs. Dorko should you have any questions.
Attention 7th and 8th grade students interested in College Credit Plus (CCP) for the 24-25 school year. This is an opportunity to take college courses at West Geauga. To participate, you must turn in an intent form by the state-mandated deadline of April 1, 2024. If you have any questions about CCP or want to learn more, please contact WGMS Counselor, Mrs. Weisbarth (lindsey.weisbarth@westg.org).
The West Geauga Middle School Athletic web page for Track & Field (linked here) has a lot of information posted including a parent meeting, clothing order and season details. There are no tryouts for track. Every 7th and 8th grader is able to be on the team. The coaches are: Mrs. Frazier, Mrs. Lesko, Mr. Murray and Mr. Yokules. Practice will begin on March 13.
If you have any spring sport questions, please contact Middle School Athletic Director, Frank Vosicky (frank.vosicky@westg.org).
