WGMS families,
We have already completed our ELA and Science state tests, with just Math to finish next week. Students are working exceptionally hard. Thanks for all of your continued support.
All library books will be due on May 3.
Heads up! We had a small change in our 7th grade Pittsburgh Itinerary. Due to a schedule change, PNC Park will not be available for a tour. Instead the group will tour Acrisure Stadium from approximately 2-3:15 pm.
Save the Date! Our 8th grade promotion will take place on May 20 at 5pm in the middle school gymnasium.
There has been a scheduling change - 8th graders will now tour the high school on Tuesday, May 21. This visit will take place during the school day.
Reminder - the deadline to opt-out of the HB 123 Suicide Prevention, Violence Prevention, Social Inclusion and School Safety Requirements and/or HB288 Child Sexual Abuse, Dating Violence and Sexual Violence curriculum is April 29, 2024. Refer to your emails for curriculum details and link to the opt-out form.

The "homeroom" teacher should be your student's 5th period teacher.
On May 15, parents of current 6th graders are able to create athletic accounts for their student-athletes in Final Forms. This can be done on the Final Forms web page: https://westg-oh.finalforms.com/
Once registered, you can check next to any sports that your daughter or son may be interested in playing.
Current sports offerings are:
Fall - cheerleading, cross country, football and volleyball
Winter - basketball, cheerleading and wrestling
Spring - club baseball, club softball and track
Parents of current 7th and 8th graders do not need to register their athletes again. On June 10th these accounts will roll over and 7th graders will become 8th graders and 8th graders will become 9th graders. Parents can also register them for next year's sports on May 15 or after.
Please remember that all sports require students to have a current physical on file on the OHSAA 2024-25 paperwork. This will be available soon on the West Geauga Middle School athletics web page: https://www.westg.org/o/wgms/page/athletics-new
Some coaches will offer summer training opportunities and they communicate through Final Forms. The website will be updated periodically as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions related to athletics. I can be contacted at frank.vosicky@westg.org
Attention Parents of Middle Schoolers in the 24-25 school year
The middle school PTO is in desperate need of parents who may be interested in a leadership role for the 24-25 school year. Please come to the next meeting on May 9th at 7:00 in the WGMS Library to learn more. Without PTO participation and leadership, unfortunately, the activities/events the kids look forward to would be compromised. We need YOU! Please reach out to Meagan Bellan at meagan.bellan@westg.org for any questions!
The West Geauga Upper PTO is organizing a WGMS staff luncheon to show appreciation the week of May 6!
To help show our appreciation for the amazing staff at our schools, please consider a monetary contribution or sign up to bring drinks or dessert. All donated items should be dropped off to the middle school office the morning of Friday, May 3rd. Your contribution is greatly appreciated. Contact westgupperpto@gmail.com with any questions. Thank you for your support! Sign up using the following link:
WGMS Students are invited to attend a Spring Semi-Formal Dance: A Starry Night in the WGMS cafeteria on Friday, May 10th from 6:00-8:00 pm. We will have a DJ, dancing, raffle baskets, games, snacks and drinks. $10/WGMS student to attend.
** Please RSVP by Monday, May 6.**
Also, please consider volunteering to set up and/or chaperone. Volunteers are how these fun events are possible!

The West Geauga Spirit Shop is looking for 1 or 2 volunteers to co-chair the Spirit Shop for the upcoming school year. If you are interested in learning more, please email wgab.spiritshop@westg.org.
WGMS families, please be aware that starting on April 2nd, upon our return from spring break, we will be issuing consequences for unexcused tardiness to school. Each morning, we will track that students are in their first period class ready to learn by the bell. If a student were to earn 3 unexcused tardies, a lunch detention will be issued. Lunch detentions will continue to be issued if a student hits 6 unexcused tardies and at 9 unexcused tardies in the quarter. If a student accumulates 12 or more unexcused tardies to school, an In-School Restriction will be issued. At WGMS, we are aligning our student tardy policy with the student tardy policy at WGHS to establish consistency. Please reach out to Mrs. Dorko should you have any questions.
