Thank you for the incredible turn out for Open House. We appreciate all of your support. Below are some curriculum updates that you may have missed if you were unable to attend:
During the 23-24 school year, the middle school will be enjoying both class novels as well as introducing book clubs that allow students to have choice in their reading. Here is a look ahead of the class novels as well as the book clubs that will be occurring throughout the upcoming school year. This will also be posted on the middle school website as book clubs are added or updated. Please reach out to your child’s respective ELA teacher for any questions or concerns.
Second Step: We will continue to use Second Step as our social-emotional learning curriculum K-8. This includes anti-bullying/harassment lessons and will be embedded in social studies classes throughout the school year. For the curriculum scope and sequence, see this document. If you have any questions about the Second Step program or would like to opt your child out of this lesson, please reach out to your building principal, meagan.bellan@westg.org. Thank you for supporting your child in learning the skills that lead to success in school and in life.
MAP Testing:
Students will be taking Fall MAP tests. Family reports will be coming home with your child in an envelope on September 8th. Please contact Becky Edwards (becky.edwards@westg.org) if you do not receive the family report from your child.
Class Trips
The 7th and 8th Grade trips have been board approved. 7th graders will have the opportunity to go to Pittsburgh on May 13, 2024. 8th graders will have an opportunity to travel to Washington D.C May 22-24, 2023. A fall parent meeting will take place on Monday, October 2nd, 2023 at 5:30 in the WGMS cafeteria to learn more about the 8th grade trip from the tour company, Nowak.
School Fees
Please remember to submit payment for school and athletic fees in Infinite Campus. You can send a check made out to West Geauga Board of Education or use a credit/debit card on IC directly.

Meet Our New Staff, Part 2
Cassidy Lewis
Hi! My name is Cassidy Lewis and I will be one of the 6th/7th grade math teachers at WGMS! I recently graduated from Cleveland State this past May with a degree in Math and Science Middle Childhood Education. I was also a member of the Cleveland State Women's soccer team. As a part of the new staff here at WGMS, I have added a coaching role at the WGHS as the Girls Varsity soccer coach. I am super excited to join the West Geauga family and have a wonderful school year!
Kelly Dudziak
Hello! My name is Kelly Dudziak. I am so excited to be joining the West G staff this year! I grew up in Aurora, Ohio. I attended The Ohio State University where I studied Middle Childhood Education with concentrations in Math and Science, and swam for the club swim team. I am currently an assistant swim coach for North Coast Aquatic Team based out of Shaker Heights and Solon, Ohio. This is my 7th year as a teacher. I previously worked for two years in Youngstown City School District while my husband attended Physical Therapy School at YSU, and most recently I worked for four years in Maple Heights City Schools. I have taught 5th, 6th and 7th Grade Math and Science throughout my career, and am looking forward to teaching 6th and 7th Grade Math this year at West G!
