October 30, 2023
The First Quarter of the School year has come to an end, and our report cards are available through the Infinite Campus Portal. Please note that Specials (Art, Music, and Physical Education) teachers will provide grades at the semesters (end of the 2nd and 4th quarters). We are pleased with the high level of learning and growth that our students have accomplished.
On Tuesday, October 31, we conduct our annual Halloween Parade at 2:00 pm. Our classroom parties will follow from 2:15 pm to 2:45 pm.
Reminder that Parent/Teacher conferences are on November 2-3. There is no school for Elementary students only on Friday, November 3.
There are several flyers below with upcoming events and information. Please be sure to give them a look!
Thank you for your ongoing support of Westwood Elementary School.
Sincerely,
Jim Kish, Principal

Hello, Westwood Families!
It is the second quarter, and we are up and running! Next week, I will visit classrooms to present the No Place for Hate Pledge. The No Place for Hate initiative focuses on accepting differences, tolerance, inclusion, and respect. Students can sign the pledge and participate in three discussion-based activities promoting a positive school climate. If you prefer for your student to opt out of these activities, please contact Mr. Kish via email at jim.kish@westg.org.
Below is the No Place for Hate Pledge:
I PROMISE to do my best to treat everyone fairly.
I PROMISE to do my best to be kind to everyone - even if they are not like me.
IF I SEE someone being hurt or bullied, I will tell a teacher.
EVERYONE should be able to feel safe and happy in school.
I WANT OUR SCHOOL to be No Place for Hate.
I will be in the building during conferences. Please stop by to introduce yourself!

Costume Parade: 2:00-2:15 p.m.
Weather permitting, students will parade outside the perimeter of the Westwood school building.
Parents will be directed to stand on the driveway in front of the school. Students will exit the Kindergarten side doors, walk down the sidewalk and reenter the building at the 1st Grade side doors.
In case of inclement weather, guests may enter the front doors and line up around the perimeter of the gymnasium for the indoor parade. Please note that all visitors MUST adhere to the same costume guidelines as students, should adults choose to dress up for the costume parade. Furthermore, all adults must conform to our Westwood sign-in procedures.
Classroom parties will be from 2:15- 2:45 p.m. Only the homeroom parents (assigned by PTO) and party helpers (3) arranged by the homeroom parent will be permitted to attend the classroom party. The office staff will have a list of parents helping with parties. All helpers MUST sign in.
Please communicate with your child’s homeroom teacher if you do not want your child to participate in the party and parade, as an alternate location/activity will be available.
COSTUME GUIDELINES (costumes are optional)
All staff reserves the right to ask students and visitors to change costumes in a manner acceptable to the school. Students are expected to wear a costume compatible with the WG mask guidance.
No weapons of any kind are permitted.
Each person must be easy to identify.
Costumes may not include blood, mutilated, or severed body parts.
Dress code rules about appropriate bodily coverage still apply.
Students need to come to school prepared with all costume parts. Students need to be able to get dressed with little or no assistance from the teacher. If they do not come to school dressed in costumes, they will have 5 minutes to change. If a student must wear parts of his/her costume to school, he/she must be able to participate in class and focus on learning fully. He/she needs to be able to sit comfortably in his/her seat and participate in recess.
Students will not be allowed to spray paint hair or face paint while at school.
Total covering of the face with hoods is not permitted.
The PTO will be providing a cookie snack for each student. (Giant Eagle Brand Vanilla Frosted Sugar Cookies with Colored Sprinkles. Made in a tree nut-free facility.) For more information, please contact Medical Assistant, Lisa Berardinelli at 440-729-5990.
The next PTO Popcorn Day is Thursday, 11/9. Sign up to pop in and help during your child's lunchtime. If you have not purchased a pass for the year, individual bags of popcorn are $0.50 each.
