Message from Mr. Kish

We look forward to several events as we move into the Winter season! We kick off our Book Fair next week, culminating with our Lunch With a Loved One on Friday, November 17th. Please check out all of the other events we have planned that are found in this newsletter.

In the upcoming weeks, we will administer the MAP Fluency assessment to all our students. This assessment meets the legal requirements of the Dyslexia Screening Legislature. Due to the test format, we will test students in small groups over the upcoming weeks.

It is also that time of year when we administer the CogAT assessment to our second-grade students. Please note the dates of the upcoming events. We will be sending home results following the assessment.

I want to thank our Westwood PTO and families for all of your support of the educational programs at our school.

Sincerely,

Jim Kish, Principal

PTO News

The PTO Spiritwear sale returns just in time for the holiday season! Online ordering is open through November 13th. This is a great way for your family to show school spirit and check off items on your gift list. Please make a note at checkout if you do NOT want your purchase sent home with your child, and PTO will contact you for alternate arrangements. Otherwise, items will be delivered to the school and sent home with your child about 2-3 weeks after the sale has closed.

Calling all bookworms! The Scholastic Book Fair returns November 15-17. Our volunteer signup is currently looking bleak. Without the support of parent volunteers, PTO won't be able to continue offering programming and events such as this for the benefit of our children. As an added incentive, each volunteer will get to select one free book from the shop. Please sign up at the link below!

Lunch With A Loved One returns on November 17, coinciding with the Book Fair. Please refer to the flyer for class lunch times. If your child chose a different Loved One over you and you feel left out - don't worry! We could always use additional help to manage sign-ins and traffic flow. Check out the volunteer opportunities below.

We're making a list and checking it twice! The Westwood PTO Amazon Wish List is stocked with items that can be used for our upcoming Holiday Shop, as well as throughout the year. The next time you place an Amazon order, consider adding an item from our list to your cart. Items will be delivered directly to Westwood, eliminating an extra trip for you! This is a great way for parents who are short on time to still feel like you're involved in making a difference for our Westwood family.

The annual Westwood PTO Holiday Shop returns December 11-14. This beloved event allows children to shop affordably for their loved ones for the holiday season (and without parents having to lug them to the stores). This event couldn't happen without the help of our elves - all of YOU! Help is needed with setup/teardown, assisting kids with shopping, and gift wrapping. Please consider signing up for a time that your child won't be shopping - kids love to keep their gifts a surprise! Further details will be sent home prior to Thanksgiving break. Please direct any questions or concerns to pto.westwood@gmail.com.
