Westwood Elementary

Message from Mr. Kish

Happy New Year! I hope our Westwood Community had a relaxing and enjoyable Winter Break! We are now in the second semester of the school year. Our students will take the MAP Growth Winter assessments and the MAP Fluency Assessments in the coming weeks.

On February 8, 2024, Liliana Leone will visit Westwood Elementary School as our guest author. She has published several children's books. Please see the flyer below if you are interested in any of her materials. Liliana will also be visiting Lindsey Elementary School.

When dropping off your child in the morning, please be reminded to form four lines to accommodate traffic and keep cars off of Caves Road. The far left lane must be left open for vehicles exiting the campus.

In the afternoon, please ensure your Car Tag is clipped to the Visor with your Last Name printed clearly. This is extremely important during inclement weather. Also, please remember that the far right lane (closest to the building) is for parents picking up students who have been transferred from Lindsey.

Thank you for all of your support of Westwood Elementary School!

Jim Kish, Principal

Counselor News

Happy 2024, Westwood Families!

We are happy to be back in our school routine as Westwood students!  We spent the week reinforcing our PBIS expectations of being respectful, responsible, and ready to learn!  Countless ‘gotcha’ stickers and positive referrals were awarded this week!

January 15 - 19 is National No Name Calling Week.  In January, the No Place for Hate lesson will include a reading and discussion of Alma and How She Got Her Name by Juana Martinez-Neal.  Students will have an opportunity to share why their name is special and the importance of learning the names of others.  If you have a moment, please share with your child a fun fact or story about their name!

Scholastic Book Fair
Calling all bookworms! The
Scholastic Book Fair returns February 5-7. Without the support of parent volunteers, PTO won't be able to continue offering programming and events such as this for the benefit of our children. As an added incentive, each volunteer will get to select one free book from the shop. Please sign up at the link below!

The ESCWR runs the West Geauga preschool program for children ages 3-5 years, which includes both special needs students and typical peer role models. They currently have an afternoon preschool program for West Geauga families and have opened a morning session that we wanted to let everyone know about. They have the capacity of accepting 8 more role models and 6 more special needs students at this time.  With this expansion, they would like to let more families know of this opportunity. Please contact Wendy Bartolovich at wbartolovich@escwr.org for more information.
