We have many things going on this spring at Westwood Elementary School. Don't forget to set your clocks ahead this weekend for Daylight Savings Time.
Our students are working diligently in reading by incorporating the subject areas of Science and Social Studies in our reading lessons. Please take the time to speak with your child about all of the amazing things they are doing at school.
As we get into the warmer weather this spring, please be sure you are sending your child with appropriate gear for the conditions. Also, please make sure these items are coming home. With the large temperature changes this time of year, it is common for students to leave items at school. If you are missing anything, PLEASE check our lost and found. There are many items not claimed.
Thank you to our PTO and families for your continued support of Westwood Elementary School.

Parents of incoming 3rd graders (current 2nd Grade Parents) will also have an opportunity to visit Lindsey Elementary. There will be an informational parent night on May 21st at 6 PM at Lindsey, adults only, please. Similar to the presentation given to the 3rd graders, parents will learn about the grade level, changes between Westwood and Lindsey, and will have an opportunity to ask questions.
Hello, Westwood Families!
As we turn the corner to wrap up the third quarter and start the fourth quarter I wanted to take a moment to share information about the small groups, often known as “Lunch Bunch”, that I facilitate at Westwood Elementary.
Zones of Regulation: This social-emotional learning curriculum teaches emotion recognition and self-regulation.
Social Detective and Superflex: The curriculum teaches social awareness, flexible thinking, and self-regulation.
Friendship: Our conversations focus on what we value in a friend, how to be a friend, and conflict-resolution strategies.
Wolverine Club: We reinforce the behavior expectations of PBIS (Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn) and encourage positive engagement within the Westwood community.
Some students have participated in a casual lunch bunch, often including a game of Uno or another team-building activity. In addition, Ravenwood Health visits one day per week to co-facilitate a social skills and friendship small group. Lunch bunches have been a highlight of my year!
I am happy to answer any questions. Take care!

PTO Members Meeting
Please join us on Thursday, March 14th @ 6pm in the Westwood Library for our monthly members meeting. Discussion will focus on upcoming events, as well as elections for the 2024-25 PTO Executive Committee. See you there!
2024-25 PTO Elections
It's hard to believe, but preparations are already underway for the 2024-25 school year. With that comes elections for the PTO Executive Committee, which will occur at our members' meeting on May 9th. The PTO serves as a liaison between the Westwood Elementary parents, students, teachers, and administration. Westwood has a history of a strong, goal-oriented PTO and it is important to our children that we continue this legacy. We are looking to fill next year's board with interested and dedicated parents who are committed to the ongoing well-being of our students, staff, and families. If you are interested in a board position or know someone who is worthy of nomination, please complete this Google Form no later than April 11th. If you have additional questions regarding officer positions or the election process, please contact our Nominating Committee at PTO.Westwood@gmail.com.
