Message from Mr. Kish

Westwood Families,

Thank you to our Westwood PTO and Families for making Staff Appreciation Week wonderful for our entire staff!

Please continue to note the Upcoming Events as we near the end of the school. Thank you for your attendance at all of our wonderful events.

Morning Drop-Off

Please form 3-4 lines during morning drop off. We have 5 lanes. The outside lane is to be left open for exiting cars. We have been forming only two lines. This creates a traffic issue. Thank you for your continued support of all we do at Westwood Elementary School.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at jim.kish@westg.org or 440-729-5995.

Jim Kish, Principal

Counselor News

Hello, Westwood Families!

Congratulations to the following classrooms who earned extra recess by winning the Gold Tray Game!  During the last few weeks of the school year we will focus on all areas: sitting at our assigned table, talking at a ‘whisper talk’ voice level, keeping our tables clean, and using manners.

Week Two:

Kindergarten: Mrs. Hinkle

First Grade: Mrs. Javorek and Mrs. Zannetti

Second Grade: Mrs. Regano

Week Three:

Kindergarten:  Mrs. Hinkle

First Grade: Mrs. Javorek

Second Grade: Miss Sustin

Friendly reminder: On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the HB 288 (Child Abuse Prevention) presentations will occur during grade-level meetings.  Please see the email from the district for more information.

Students who have been opted out will work in a separate room on a career art drawing. As a school district, we recognize this is a private matter and many families prefer to handle these conversations at home. Therefore, there will be no discussion following the videos. Students who have questions or concerns will be encouraged to visit the school counselor on staff. The school day will resume as normal.

Field Day

It's hard to believe another school year is coming to an end. But it wouldn't be complete without a final celebration on Field Day!

Mrs. Nicolosi and PTO are teaming up on Friday, May 24th to bring the kids a day of fun. Mrs. Nicolosi has organized a morning of games and activities. Following that, PTO will provide a cookout lunch with options of grilled hamburger, hot dog, or a PB&J Uncrustable, along with fruits and veggies. Please note that the cafeteria will be closed that day. Your child is welcome to pack a lunch from home if desired. Teachers will be sending out more info in the coming week and asking for your child's lunch choice.

Please join us for the fun by signing up to assist throughout the day. We also need donations of food brought to the office the day prior. Refer to the link below for more details and to sign up. Thanks in advance for your support!

The Celebrate with Me Book Program is a special way to recognize your child and help grow the West Geauga Elementary School Libraries

Each $10 donation will allow your child to:

  • Select a new book for the library that includes a bookplate with your child's name.

  • Be the first student to check out this new title from their school library.

  • Receive a commemorative bookmark when the new book enters circulation.

  • If desired, be recognized in the PTO Newsletter for making a lasting gift to the library.

This Book Program will be available to honor ANY CELEBRATION that you feel is important for your student. Celebration examples include birthdays, holidays, end of school year or awards. You can donate multiple times throughout the year & the library will greatly benefit from new titles being added! This program is designed to be a partnership of families & PTO to celebrate student achievements and grow the library.
