Hello, Westwood Families!
The PBIS Team had a wonderful meeting last week to introduce new positive behavior initiatives for our students. In addition to the Gotcha stickers, students who go above and beyond our expectations will receive a “Paws-itive PBIS Referral”. The teacher fills out a green form and the student will visit the main office where we celebrate the student! Mr. Kish provides students with a special Principal’s Paw sticker and their name is entered into a raffle! Our goal is for all students to receive one Paws-itive Referral per quarter!
I am happy to answer any questions!

Join Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) for Pajama Day on October 26th. SHP is a national nonprofit that builds and delivers beds to kids who are sleeping on the floor. Giving a kid a bed not only gives them a good night’s sleep, but it also provides physical and emotional health benefits. When you participate in this super fun event you help SHP make sure that NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!
How does Pajama Day work?
We invite all students and teachers to wear their PJs to school on October 26th and bring a donation in support of building beds for kids.
How much money should my kid take to school on Pajama Day?
Your donation is not required for your child to join us on Pajama Day. If you’re able to donate, our school has chosen $1 for each donation. Students may bring in more than $1. The money collection will start on Monday, 10/23. All the funds we raise stay right here in our community to help local families in need.
The video below is a Pajama Day Teaser video to provide you with more information and to generate excitement. Students will talk about this event and action with their teachers between now and 10/26.
This week, members of the Russell Fire Department visited Westwood Elementary School to discuss Fire Safety and Prevention.
Each grade level heard a presentation from the firefighters followed by a tour of the fire truck. Students were also able to see demonstrations of the tools used by the firefighters.
Thank you to the Russell Fire Department for conducting this fun and educational day!
Popcorn Day- Thursday, October 19
Popcorn Thursdays are coming back at Westwood, and you can believe we're popping with excitement! Popcorn Thursdays will occur on a monthly basis. Students will have an opportunity to purchase a bag of popcorn after they have completed their lunch. Popcorn is $.50/bag (cash/coins), or students can use their pre-purchased popcorn passes. Take a look at the SignUp Genius and sign up for a time to pop in and help!
